Arts Education School Tours

National Arts in Education Week is a national celebration that promotes and showcases the important role of the arts in education. This year, the Arts Council of Indianapolis and Any Given Child Indy have organized a weeklong celebration for the Indianapolis community.

We are bringing together arts organizations, educators, community leaders, and citizens for a series of presentations, discussions, and special events to elevate the work of arts educators and the importance of arts education for our city’s youth.

Curious to know what the arts look like when implemented in the classroom?

During National Arts in Education Week, you will have the opportunity to visit two high-performing schools and learn what students experience in the arts on an every day basis.

On Wednesday, September 14 from 8:30 am to 12 pm, attendees will visit Edison School of the Arts IPS School 47 and Tindley Genesis Academy, one of the Mayor’s Charter Schools. During the school tours, those in attendance will be able to hear firsthand from the schools’ principals, have the opportunity to ask questions, and visit a handful of classrooms.

This event is FREE of charge and open to the first 50 registrants.

Details

At 8:30 am on Wednesday, September 14, attendees will meet at the Arts Council of Indianapolis (924 N Pennsylvania Street) where they will enjoy breakfast and be briefed on the morning’s activities. At that time, participants will be divided into carpools for the in-school tours. The carpools will transport participants to the schools and back to the Arts Council of Indianapolis by 12 pm. Only those who have pre-registered for the in-school tours on Eventbrite will be able to participate.

PARKING: Please park in the south lot or the lot across the street from the Arts Council. Parking is free and no parking passes are required.

About Any Given Child Indy
Over the next five years (2016-2021), the Arts Council of Indianapolis is working to ensure that every student in Indianapolis Public Schools (K-8) has the opportunity to have transformative encounters with the arts. Any Given Child Indy is a collective impact partnership with the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Mayor’s Office of Indianapolis, and the Superintendent’s Office that brings diverse sectors of our community together to develop a plan for integrating high-quality arts instruction into all IPS schools.

Any Given Child Indy is a five-year incremental process designed to ensure that 100% of Indianapolis students (K-8) have equitable access to the creative arts. The Arts Council has a talented team dedicated to this project who share a passion for ensuring access and equity for all students in grades K-8. Over the next five years we will work with community leaders to:

1. Match teachers with arts organizations
2. Engage new voices of support for arts in schools
3. End inequality in funding of arts education in Indianapolis Public Schools
